If you know me at all, you will know that I love homeware and pretty much anything interiors related, and it is no secret that pretty crockery in particular is very high on the list of things I love to have in my home. For those of you who have been following my blog for some time now, you will know that one of my absolute favourite places to shop for homeware bits and pieces is Anthropologie.
Luckily for my bank balance, we don’t have an Anthropologie here in the UAE (there are rumours that one is coming to Abu Dhabi this year, but we will have to wait and see…..). Annoyingly though, there is nothing even really like Anthropologie here in Abu Dhabi, so I always end up turning to their website to have a little browse.
Now, on a normal day, Anthropologie definitely isn’t the cheapest of places to pick up nice little bits for your home, but they do the BEST sales! Any time I see them advertise a sale, I am straight onto their website to see what bargains I can find – I always just order the stuff to my parents house in Ireland and pick it up when I am back home. This Christmas we were also in London, so I got the chance to go into a few of the Anthropologie stores (I just had to make sure I wasn’t missing anything) lol. Plus, their central London store is on Regent’s Street which always has the best Christmas decorations, so it was a great excuse to go and see those too.
Since leaving London for Abu Dhabi, it has kind of become a tradition for Dan and I to go into the city and see the lights when we go back at Christmas time. It helps us to get into the festive spirit coming from Abu Dhabi, where Christmas decorations are a competition to see which hotel can have the biggest tree more than anything. Anthropologie also have a store in Richmond, and since we had a few hours to spare the day after our friend’s wedding there, we thought it would be rude to not check out that brach too :).
Homeware hauls are one of my favourite kind of blog posts to read. Maybe I am just nosy but I love seeing what people have bought. Even if I am not looking for anything myself, or if things are sold out, I still like to see. Shops like Anthropologie often stock similar items throughout the seasons so there will always be a chance to pick up something you like. Given all of that, I thought I would show you a few pieces that I recently got from them. Some of these are sale items and some aren’t, but most of what I have is still available on their website, and like I said, if the exact item is not there, there are similar ones available.
Gold Monogram Mug (£10)
If you read my Christmas Gift Guide for Her, you will know that I have wanted the Anthropologie gold monogram mug for about 3 years now! I love anything monogramed, I love gold and I love cups so…… But every single year they sell out before I can manage to get one :(. It comes with a black letter too which they usually always have for longer, but that’s because, in my opinion, it really just isn’t as nice! Lol.
Anyway, luckily for me, I have a husband that read my gift guide and ended up getting me (and himself actually) the gold monogram mug for Christmas! HURRAY! 🙂 I guess that is the beauty of writing a Christmas gift guide (I really should have started writing these years ago! Lol I have definitely made Dan’s job much easier!)
To be completely honest, I’m not usually a fan of a chunky mug (which is exactly what this one is) – I usually prefer a smaller lightweight cup. For me, the more fragile, the better lol – I don’t know why. There are however those days when all I want is a big cup of tea in a mug, and this mug is perfect for that. I also like to use a big mug in the morning time when I try (I say try because it definitely doesn’t always happen) to drink a cup of hot water with a slice of lemon before I have a coffee. Again, this mug is perfect for that as it is a good way to get some water into me at the start of the day.
I also sometimes use this cup as a vase for some short cut flowers or even with just one big hydrangea. I think it looks so nice like that :). So this is a very versatile and useful mug for me indeed :). I’m so happy to finally have one!
Mimira Canape Plate (£6.95)
As much as I love cups, I also love pretty plates. Apart from a gorgeous set of Wedgewood plates which our friend gave Dan and I as a wedding gift, most of our plates are plain and boring white ones from good ol’ IKEA. Now there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I have been on the look out for some side plates that kind of match the Wedgewood ones, but don’t cost a fortune. I quite like just picking up different little pieces of mismatched crockery here and there but that work well together as a whole. It was actually last Christmas in the Anthropologie sale that I saw this cute little pink and gold plate and I thought it was absolutely perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for and was reduced from something like £14 to £7. I snapped one up and have been loving it for the past year. THEN, this Christmas when I went into Anthropologie, I found what is basically the blue version of the pink plate that I bought a year ago! To make it even better the blue one has a swirl of pink and gold in it too, so it matches perfectly with the pink one without being tooooo matchy matchy! 🙂
There are currently so, so many variations of this plate on sale on the Anthropologie website. The pink one that I have from last year isn’t available, but the blue one is and there are also lots of other colours to choose from too, most of which are reduced to between £4.95 – £7.95 each. I am tempted to get a few others. I have linked some of my favourite ones under the ‘Shop My Post Section’ below.
Slivered Geode Coaster (£14)
This white and gold geode coaster is something else that I have had my eye on for a long, long time in Anthropologie. I waited and waited for it to be in the sale but that never happened so I just gave in. I am obsessed with this kind of material at the minute. It is handmade from agate stone to replicate a quartz and is edged in brass plating. I absolutely love nice coasters and I like to use them for so much more than just placing my cup on them. If you find a good one, it can almost look like a nice ornament just sitting on your coffee table, side table, on a book shelf or by your bedside. They can also work as little trinket plates for your rings or hair slides, or any other bits and bobs. I also like to place candles on them, or a pretty bottle of perfume. There are so, so many ways to use coasters. I think they add such a lovely touch to any set up.
The one thing I would say about this Anthropologie coaster in particular is that, because it is made of a natural material, no two pieces are the same and there will always be variations. When I received mine, it was a slightly different colour to the one that I had seen online, which was a bit annoying. Like me, if you are fussy about things like that, I would recommend going into the shop and hand selecting the one you want, rather than buying it online.
Agate Bottle Opener (£9.95)
Continuing with the love for agate, the last thing that I got was this gorgeous bottle opener. I didn’t realise it was possible to make a bottle opener look pretty until I saw this one! Lol. I am also well aware that bottle openers don’t have to look nice, but it’s just a bonus when they do. This is definitely a very unnecessary purchase, but it is something that I am sure we will have forever and it brings me great joy every time I open the drawer :). Despite being the same material as the coaster, this bottle opener was on sale which made it more acceptable to make this silly purchase. It was reduced from £16 to £9.95, and I managed to pick this up in store which meant I could choose the exact one I wanted. To be honest, this is exactly the colour I wanted my coaster to be.
That’s it for this quick Anthropologie haul. I hope you spotted something you like. As always, the link to everything I mentioned is listed below and in the titles. I’d love to hear about your favourite homeware shops and if you are a big Anthropologie fan like me :).
Just to let you know – next week there will be no blog post as I am making some updates to the website. I will be back the week after 🙂
