Despite my love for Korean skincare, Dr. Jart is a brand which I hadn’t tried before, but continues to pop up everywhere and is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its line of ceramidin products. Dr. Jart is a Korean skincare brand that claims to produce “effective dermatological cosmetics formulated without skin-irritating ingredients”.
When I came across a number of Dr. Jart’s Ceramidin products in a Sephora Outlet store here in the UAE, where the products were a third of their usual price, I couldn’t believe my luck as it presented me with the perfect opportunity to see what all of the fuss was about.
As I said, Dr. Jart’s ceramidin line has been highly raved about in the cosmetic industry this year and I now understand why. As the name suggests, the ceramidin line of products all contain ceramide as an ingredient. Ceramide is a type of lipid (fat) that helps keep moisture in the skin. Moisturisers which contain ceramide have the same balance of lipids that our skin does. These skin lipids form a barrier which helps to keep your skin moisturised.
As our skin ages, the level of ceramides in our skin begins to decrease, weakening our skin barrier. The Dr. Jart ceramidin products therefore work as an intense moisturiser to help protect the skin’s natural barrier, reduce the signs of aging and seal in hydration.
When I tested the ceramidin oil balm on my hand in the shop, I knew immediately that this was a product for me, and this is why…………..
The ceramidin products come in a number of different forms (cream, liquid, oil balm and gel cream) but they all work in the same way. It is down to personal preference which one you use as they all have a different texture. At first I was drawn to the oil balm because of the name. Balm and oil products are my absolute favourite kind of products, so naturally I was drawn to something that was both lol.
The product comes in a little glass jar (40g) with a screw on lid. I love the simple packaging and branding and, like all good products do, it came with its own spatula for scooping the balm out of the jar. We all know how much I value this lol.
When I opened the lid and took a sniff of the product it smelt amazing. It contains nine plant oils (including sweet almond, patchouli, geranium, bergamot and sage) which give it a very calming yet somewhat medicinal aroma which I absolutely love!! The oils provide a combination of moisturising, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. The bergamot oil helps control sebum production so even if you have oily skin you don’t have to worry about this product adding more oil, clogging your pores and causing your skin to break out.
When you first scoop out the product it is a thick balm, but it quickly melts down to a thin oil when you warm it between your fingers before massaging it into your face. Because of the scent and texture of the oil balm, I love to use this product as my night time moisturiser. It feels so luxurious and relaxing right before bed time. It actually smells a lot like my favourite Emma Hardie cleansing balm, but the bonus is that I don’t have to wash this one off. As it is my moisturiser, it can stay on all night. It really is such a treat to use. The oil doesn’t feel sticky on my skin but it definitely feels slippery and oily and remains there all night, which I don’t mind at all. That just makes me feel as though it is really doing a good job of moisturising my skin. The product sinks into my skin overnight and in the morning it is deeply moisturised, soft and hydrated.
It is also possible to use the oil balm as your day time moisturiser if you want to, but unless you have severely dry skin, I find it a bit too heavy for the daytime, especially if you want to wear makeup on top. I think that one of the other ceramidin products would be better for during the day. For this reason I also got the liquid form to try. I haven’t used that one yet as I have other day moisturisers on the go, but I will report back on this one when I get round to using it. Like I said, I got mine at a Sephora outlet where the stock is never consistent so I wanted to snap it up while I could!
In addition to being an amazing night time moisturiser, the oil balm is actually marketed as a “do it all treatment” for dry and dehydrated skin. We all know that I love a multi-use product and the oil balm can be used on your face, elbows, cuticles and ends of hair. How amazing!
The balm costs 139 AED in Sephora, which is about £29 or $38. I was very lucky to find it in the Sephora outlet for 50 AED which is about £10. I think they have recently changed the packaging and the one I have is in old packaging, hence the sale price! However, I would happily pay full price for this product as I absolutely think it is worth it! This oil balm has firmly taken the place of my night time moisturiser and I am completely obsessed with it. I love everything about it from the texture to the scent and, most importantly, the way it leaves my skin looking and feeling. I completely understand why this line of Dr. Jart products is so popular. If the liquid version is as good as the balm version I will be very pleased! I’m looking forward to trying it.
