Shopping for homeware things is my favourite kind of shopping. Even if I am not looking for anything in particular to buy, I just love browsing homeware stores and websites. I have spoken about H&M Home in a blog post here before and it is now, more than ever, one of my favourite places to shop for homeware goodies.
In Abu Dhabi there is only a small H&M home section in one of the main H&M stores. The last time I visited the store, much to my disappointment, the homeware section seemed to be decreasing in size. However, I have since discovered that a brand new H&M Home has recently opened up in Mall of the Emirates in Dubai and it has a much bigger selection of all of the latest products (hurrrrayy)! I didn’t however go to Dubai with the intention of going to H&M Home, but I was meeting a friend there for lunch and we just happened to ‘end up’ in there after lunch. Funnily enough, my friend shares the same love for H&M Home so neither of us took much persuasion to go there!
I had absolutely no intention of buying anything on this day and used the classic excuse, ‘I will just have a look’. Well ‘a look’ quickly turned into ‘I WANT EVERYTHING’ when I saw the new collection lol. Of course I ended up buying a few bit and pieces that I absolutely love and thought I would share them here. Btw, I also felt some comfort in knowing that H&M Home in the UAE actually sell their products for around the same price as their UK stores. Usually shops in Abu Dhabi and Dubai are more expensive than the UK for exactly the same things, but I checked the prices online and they were almost identical for the items that I picked up. This is very unusual because even H&M clothes are more expensive here than in the UK. This was probably not the justification that I needed, but I am using it anyway :). Everything that I bought was from the same range, apart from one random item, but I will talk about that separately.
H&M Home – Porcelain Cake Stand
The first thing I saw was this gorgeous navy, white and gold porcelain cake stand. Now, personally I find cake stands to be a bit of an odd piece of crockery. I have one big cake stand from IKEA and it looks nice but I rarely use it. Realistically, you only use a cake stand when you have baked a cake (obviously) and for me, that’s not very often, and even when I do bake a cake it usually goes into a tin or an air tight container to keep it fresh. My cake stand, therefore, doesn’t really see a lot of use. It is of course nice to use it when I have visitors over, but the one that I have is just so big and a little bit over the top to just plonk down on the table in my wee apartment, unless there is a very special occasion. So when I saw this one in H&M I thought it would be the perfect size to use on any given day. It’s not too big, nor too small. I actually used this one for a pancakes stack when we had some friends over for breakfast last week and it worked perfectly for that :).
H&M Home – Small Stoneware Chopping Board
The next thing that took my fancy was this little stoneware chopping board. I love the style of this chopping board and it feels really heavy and well made. I have a bit of a fetish for pretty chopping boards (weirdo). I don’t actually use them for ‘chopping’ things, but I like to stack them up against a wall in my kitchen and use them as serving plates rather than as actual chopping boards. Plus, they make my kitchen look nicer! This one is very small anyway and doesn’t really lend itself well to chopping on, but it works perfectly as a dish for serving cheese or biscuits and things like that. I used this one to serve mini pancake stacks too. That was more for decoration than practicalities, but it looked good (and that’s all that matters, right?) lol.
H&M Home – Porcelain and Patterned Mug
Given my obsession with pretty cups, I couldn’t help myself when I saw these porcelain mugs that matched the cake stand and chopping board. They are handle-less, and have a gold coloured rim which seems to be a common theme with most of the cups I own! I absolutely love how these mugs look but I have to be completely honest, they are quite possibly the most impractical cup I have ever used! Because they don’t have a handle, it is almost impossible to pick the thing up without given myself a third degree burn (extremely sad and disappointed face). When I use these, I always have to wait for my drink to cool down a little bit before attempting to lift it towards my mouth lol, but I love them nonetheless.
Then I spotted a classic ‘Claire’ cup. A little gold and white stripy teacup. I think this one is so, so pretty and I couldn’t leave it behind! I thought Dan could live without one of these though so I just got one. I will use it at my desk, which appears to have a gold and white theme going on at the minute.
H&M Home – Metal watering can
The last thing I picked out was the random item I mentioned earlier. It’s this mini gold watering can. Given that I appear to have become somewhat green fingered (or trying to be anyway) in the last couple of years, I have had my eye on something like this for a long time now. When I saw this mini gold watering can in H&M Home I thought it was absolutely perfect! Not only will it encourage me to actually water my plants regularly, but I think it looks really cool as an ornament or a mini vase. When I don’t have fresh flowers to put it in, mine just sits on top of my bookshelf. I know it is a bit of an odd place for it but I like it :).
That’s it for my latest H&M Home haul. Let me know if there are any homeware stores which you are loving right now 🙂

I absolutely love interior decorating too Tigrista. The good thing with H&M Home is that it isn’t overly expensive so you don’t have to live in fear of your kids breaking things lol xx
