Like most girls, lip balms were definitely one of the first cosmetic obsessions that I had. To this very day, that has not changed and it is safe to say that lip balms make up the majority of my cosmetic collection. I am too ashamed to count exactly how many I have, but I know it’s far too many. On second thought, I take that back…….. you can never have too many lip balms! Lol
If you are like me, you will have a lip balm in every drawer (except the drawer beside your bed…… you will have about 15 in this one lol), in every coat pocket, about 4 in your handbag (and every other bag you own) and at least 2 in your car!
Nothing beats the satisfaction of opening up a new lip balm. Even more satisfying, however, is the feeling of finishing a lip balm! Unfortunately, that rarely happens to me because I usually want to move on to a new one almost as soon as I open the most recent one.
There are so, so many lip balms on the market these days that it is hard to know which one to use. My unnecessarily large selection of lip balms contains some which are massively overrated (and overpriced), and some which are as cheap as chips and just as good as the overrated. Despite the oversaturated market, there are some lip balms that I find myself going back to time and time again. Having done a post on my favourite lipsticks a few months ago, I thought it would also be useful, to to share with you, my favourite lip balms and the ones which I absolutely swear by. For each high end brand, I have included a ‘drug store’ (pharmacy / chemist) alternative, which is more affordable and, in my opinion, just as good!

Fresh SUGAR - Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy | Korres - Lip Butter (Jasmin) |
Fresh SUGAR Nourishing Lip Balm Advanced Therapy
This is the second time that I have purchased the Fresh SUGAR Advanced Therapy Lip Balm, and that is saying something! I very rarely repurchase products as I always like to try new ones, so the fact that I went back for a second one of these says it all. This is one of the nicest lip balms I have ever used. It is really smooth, creamy and so moisturising. It has quite a sticky consistency, but I am okay with that. It’s a pretty, pale pink colour that gives the lips a nice natural wash of colour. Lastly, it smells really nice! Its has quite a subtle sweet scent, but once I put it on my lips it feels quite minty. It’s a hard one to describe, but trust me, it’s AMAZING! I love it!
Korres – Lip Butter (Jasmine)
A more affordable version of the Fresh Sugar lip balm is the Korres lip balm in Jasmine. This has quite a similar texture and feel on the lips to the Fresh one. This one definitely gives off more colour than the fresh one though, and to be honest, I generally don’t want to have any colour in a lip balm as it’s not ideal for applying right before bed. That aside, this is a really lovely lip balm.

Bobbi Brown – Lip Balm SPF 15 | EOS Lip Balm |
Bobbi Brown – Lip Balm SPF 15
I absolutely love this Bobby Brown lip balm which has SPF 15 in it. I hadn’t ever heard of this lip balm until I just happened to come across it when looking in store for something different. It has quite a waxy texture which makes it vey long lasting on the lips. It has a very subtle pale pink colour and comes in a cute, lightweight silver tin. It is an all round very nice product.
EOS Lip Balm
In terms of texture and feel on the lips, the EOS lip balms are similar to the Bobby Brown lip balm. The EOS balms are a bit of a novelty with their cute round packaging, but they are actually really good lip balms. They come in a massive selection of colours / scents /flavours. The one I am showing here is the coconut milk scent but my favourite one is the sweet mint.

BY TERRY – Baume De Rose | Soap & Glory – Smooch Operator |
BY TERRY – Baume De Rose
This one needs no introduction! I have mentioned it on my blog before, when I was talking about my travel essentials. The infamous Baume De Rose is such a popular lip balm, and despite its ridiculously high price tag it continues to receive great attention. It is by far the most luxurious lip balm I have ever owned, and it’s one that I have loved using. The texture is so creamy and soft, and it has the most divine rose scent. Both the product and the packaging have a very luxurious feel, and it really does a great job at moisturising the lips as it is thick and long lasting. This is not something that you would necessarily buy for yourself on an average day, so I think it would make such a lovely gift for someone.
Soap & Glory – Smooch Operator
Given the price of Baume De Rose, I was so, so, SO happy with myself when I discovered Soap & Glory’s Smooch Operator. Despite its stupid name, I absolutely love this lip balm and I think it is SUCH a good dupe for Baume De Rose. It has a very, very similar texture and colour, and feels almost identical on the lips. For the price, I think this is an absolute winner! This is the third little pot of this stuff that I have gone through! Need I say more?!

NUXE – Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm & First Aid Beauty – Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm | Carmex – Moisturising Lip Balm |
NUXE – Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm & First Aid Beauty – Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm
I have grouped the Nuxe Ultra Nourishing Lip Balm and the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Intensive Lip Balm together, because in my opinion these are very, very similar products and I love them both! These are by far the thickest, most moisturising lip balms that I own. They give off absolutely no colour, and have very similar textures. The First Aid beauty one is maybe a little ‘grittier’ than that the Nuxe one which is thick and smooth. They both have a very strong scent (a kind of medicated smell). These are PERFECT lip balms to use overnight as they are so thick that they will stay on all night and you will still feel them on your lips in the morning. They are also perfect for overnight given that they don’t contain any colour. These two products really feel more like a lip treatment than a lip balm, and I would call them more healing than luxurious, if that makes sense?! These are the products that I turn to if I have really chapped lips and need something to help them heal ASAP! This is the second pot of Nuxe that I have owned and this one came with a cute pink special edition lid :).
Carmex – Moisturising Lip Balm
The dupe which I have for the NUXE and Firt Aid Beauty lip balms is an oldie, but a goodie….. Carmex! Carmex is a lip balm that I have been using for years now! In fact, it was probably one of the first lip balms I ever owned, and I have been repurchasing it ever since. I wouldn’t even like to attempt to count how many pots of this stuff that I (and my sisters) went through in our teenage years. It is cheap, has unattractive packaging and smells weird but IT JUST WORKS! Lol I don’t know what it is about Carmex but it never ever lets me down. As with Nuxe and First Aid Beauty, I prefer to use Carmex overnight. I don’t like the medicated taste in my mouth during the day.
That’s it for my favourite lip balms. Let me know if you have tried any of these lip balms or if you have any good recommendations for me to try :).
