I have been finding myself reaching more and more for my liquid bronzers these days and this is for a number of reasons; my usual powder bronzer has finished and I can’t decide which new one I want to get next, and after complaining about the Abu Dhabi weather in my last blog post, the sun had finally come out and it is making me love using liquid products again.
I have a few liquid bronzers that I love and constantly go back to; two of these I’ve had for years and the other one I discovered around this time last year and have been loving it ever since.
By Terry – Tea to Tan
The By Terry, Tea to Tan Water Colour Bronzer was the first liquid bronzer that I ever used and at the time of discovering it I honestly had no idea how to use this product. I discovered it when I was going on holiday and didn’t want to wear foundation, but still wanted to have a little bit of color on my face using something that was very natural looking and lasted well on my skin.
Tea to Tan contains 100% natural active cherry and tea tree extracts, and gives an instant golden glow to the skin. As the name suggests, the product is a very watery liquid which comes in a small bottle with a dropper which I found quite difficult to use at the beginning. I found that the best way to use it was to add a few drops of it to a damp makeup sponge and dab onto my face. I think that since I purchased mine they have changed the packaging and it now comes with a spray nozzle which I imagine is much easier to use.
The product also contains little flecks of shimmer that settle to the bottom of the bottle when you are not using it, but if you shake the bottle up before use the shimmer moves back up through the product. I like that it settles like this because it means you can use the product with or without the shimmer depending on what you want that day.
Once applied to my face it gives a really subtle tanned glow. As it is a water based product it sinks really nicely into the skin making it look like you have a natural flush of colour. This is exactly the type of product I love to use on holiday as it is really light and almost undetectable on the skin.
The product comes in a little glass jar which gives it a really nice luxurious feeling but quite often when I put this in my makeup bag it leaks out which can be really annoying. Again I assume that this doesn’t happen with the new packaging.
A little amount of this goes a really long way so you don’t need to use a lot. I like to apply a light layer of this bronzer all over my face and then I will apply a second layer in the usual contour areas like the the sides of my cheeks and around my hair and jawline. This product really sinks into my skin and lasts all day (even through sweat and pool / sea water lol).
I absolutely love this bronzer and I really don’t know anything that is comparable to it. It’s like a wash-off tan for your face but it’s not a lotion, cream or mousse and applies completely streak free and is quick drying. The antioxidant properties of the product brighten your complexion leaving you with a gorgeous summer glow. The black and red tea extracts along with the fruit active essence also moisturise the skin. I absolutely love it!
Chanel – Soleil Tan De Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base
The next bronzer I want to talk about is the infamous Chanel, Soleil Tan De Chanel. I have had this product for years now and I still go back to it every single summer.
This one is actually described as a cream – gel bronzer so it’s a little bit easier to use than a liquid bronzer and I use this one in a slightly different way.
This bronzer comes in a large round jar in a compressed form. I find that the best way to use it is with a stippling brush. I just swirl my brush across the top of the product and then dab / stipple it onto my face. Unlike the By Terry product which I use all over my face, I only use the Chanel bronzer in places where I would usually use a powder bronzer or again in the places I would contour.
This product has a really creamy texture and blends into the skin easily leaving a velvety finish. It has a much warmer tone than the By Terry bronzer so it depends on what type of finish you prefer. It contains mineral waxes which make it an easy product to apply and mineral powders which give a mattifying result.
I usually use this one on top of my foundation in place of a powder bronzer. You can also use it under your foundation instead for a more natural bronzed look.
This bronzer also smells absolutely amazing!! When I open the lid it just smells like summer to me. Again, a little goes a long way so this one tub lasts a really long time!
Nars – Laguna Liquid Bronzer
The last product I wanted to mention is the NARS, Laguna Liquid Bronzer. I have mentioned this bronzer in a previous post here so I won’t go into too much detail again but it is definitely worth a mention.
This one comes in a heavy matte glass bottle and has a pump so it’s very easy to use.
I find that the best way to use this one is with a damp makeup sponge. As with the Chanel bronzer, I don’t use this one all over my face and just use it on areas that I want to bronze / contour. I put one small pump of the product onto the side of my damp beauty blender / sponge and dab it onto my cheekbones and up around my hairline. The product has a really creamy consistency and is very easy to blend out. It has a nice lightweight texture so looks very natural on the skin and just gives a subtle sun kissed glow.
You can wear this one alone or on top of your makeup and again it lasts really well on the skin.
The product contains monoi and tamanu oils and vanilla extracts that moisturise the skin and have antioxidant benefits.
That’s it for my round up of liquid / cream bronzers. I really love all three of these bronzers and even though the principle of them is the same, I think all three products are very unique and I love them all for different reasons. I love switching between them depending on the result that I want.
I’d love to hear if you are a fan of liquid bronzers too or if you have any recommendations for me 🙂
Have a great weekend everyone! x
