If you have been following my blog since the beginning, you will know that I am a big fan of ‘pamper evenings’ where I have a bath, light a candle and go to town on the products :).
My pamper evening routine was actually one of the very first blog posts I wrote and that was actually over a year ago!! Where does time go?! You can read my previous pamper evening post here.
My pamper routine hasn’t really changed much since then, to be honest, but there have been a few new additions that I now use consistently and love, so I thought it was about time I did an updated pamper evening blog post :).
As always, my pamper evening starts with a nice hot bath. I know I complain about dry skin but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for a hot soak! Apparently, the hot water is dehydrating on skin, but I reckon that if you use the right products in the bath you can minimise the dry skin problem and enjoy the best of both worlds.
My bath products of choice are the same as before, and usually include some kind of bath bomb and always a bath oil. I have spoken about bath oils many times on my blog and that’s because I genuinely love them – they work so well for me. Other times I will even just scoop in a spoonful of coconut oil and that will do the job perfectly!
You know by now that my ideal bath time always includes a candle of some sort. It just adds to the relaxation feel and obviously creates a nice aroma too. I really just light whatever candle I have on the go at the time, but in an ideal world I would use one with a nice relaxing scent, like an aromatherapy candle for an evening bath that would help me unwind before bed.
Next there will be a face mask of some sort and I definitely don’t need to elaborate on this one as I have recently written a couple of blog posts about a few of my favourite face masks. You can read those here and here if you like.
So now onto the new things that have become part of my pamper routine…….
Given that I am now in my thirties, I have become increasingly conscious of the fine lines and dehydrated skin that keeps my eyes company these days (saddest face you can imagine lol). In a bid to try and delay the inevitable deterioration of this situation, I have been enjoying using eye treatment masks. These are basically under eye patches that have been saturated in hydrating serum or gel such as glycerin and hyaluronic acid. I put them on my under-eye area for about 15 minutes, either while I am in the bath or when I get out and the gel like texture gives such a cooling and hydrating sensation. As they sit under your eyes your skin absorbs the serum. After you take them off you can just dab in the remaining serum and dispose of the patches.
There is absolutely no way to tell if these actually make a difference in terms of delaying fine lines (well, unless I only use it on one eye and then compare it to the other eye in about 6 months, but I’m sorry, that’s definitely not going to happen! lol) but they certainly make my under-eye area feel more hydrated, even if it is only temporary.
Sometimes I like to use these in the morning too as I find it makes my makeup sit better under my eyes. You definitely don’t need to save these eye masks just for a pamper evening!
These eye masks are now sold by so, so many brands. Everyone from Soap and Glory to Chanel are producing these, and you can pay as little or as much as you want for them. I got mine in a Korean shop here in Abu Dhabi for about £1 per pack, and I also got some new ones while I was in Hong Kong. I will leave a few links to other options under the ‘SHOP’ section below. They just feel like a really nice treat for your eyes and I can only hope that the results will speak for themselves in later years.
If I don’t use one of the disposable eye masks I will try and use my Gel Bead Eye Mask from The Vintage Cosmetic Company. This one is more like your average sleeping eye mask except it has gel beads inside. It can be stored in the fridge so that it has a really nice cooling effect when you take it out and put it on your eyes. It can also be used warm by popping it in the microwave. This is one is great for reviving tired eyes and especially great for helping to soothe a headache.
The latest addition to my pamper evening (and something which I now use every night actually) is a pillow spray. I generally don’t have any trouble sleeping, especially after having a bath, but a hotel that we stayed in a couple of months ago had the ‘This Works Deep Calm Pillow Spray’ in our room and I’ve been hooked on the idea ever since lol.
This one is clinically proven to “help you fall asleep faster and wake feeling more refreshed“, and who doesn’t want that?! It is made from a therapeutic blend of lavender, vetivert and chamomile to help calm your mind and body.
I also found a lavender and jasmine pillow spray in Primark recently and that is really nice too. It definitely doesn’t have as such a strong scent as the This Works one but it still feels nice to spray on my pillow at night and is a fraction of the price!
As I said, I don’t usually have much trouble sleeping so it is difficult to tell just how well these work, but they certainly do feel like the right way to end a pamper evening and, if nothing else, make your pillow smell of lovely lavender :).
So that’s it for the changes I have made to my pamper evening routine. This was a very popular blog post last time, so I really hope you like this little update too :).
Please do tell me how you like to pamper yourself and what products you like to use, no matter how basic or obscure they might be lol.
Have a great weekend everyone, and don’t forget to treat yourself to a bath! X
P.s. There will be no blog post next week as I am back in Ireland to watch my sister do a skydive for charity. Her chosen charity is MindWise, who provide support for people suffering with mental health illnesses. If you would like to support this great charity, you can use this link to make a donation.
