Anyone who has been following my blog for a while will know that one of my absolute favourite products of recent times has been Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter. Up until trying that, I hadn’t really tried many other products from her apart from one or two lipsticks and some skincare things that I didn’t really love all that much. However, given how much I enjoy her Hollywood Flawless Filter it got me interested in trying out some other things from the brand.
So many of her products are really highly reviewed and raved about, in particular her iconic Matt Revolution Pillow Talk lipstick and The Dolce Vita eyeshadow palette, so I thought this would be a good place to start on my quest to find some more Charlotte Tilbury products that I would love.
I have been using them both now for a couple of weeks now so I thought I would share my thoughts on whether I think they are worth all of the hype they receive.
The Dolce Vita Eyeshadow Palette
l very, very rarely buy new eyeshadow. The last eyeshadow palette that I bought was the Tartlette in bloom clay palette and I used it every single day until the only shade I really liked in it ran out. In fact, I can still scrape a little bit out of that one but it really was time for a new one, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to try out the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita eyeshadow quad.
To start off with, the packing for ALL of Charlotte Tilbury’s products is really gorgeous and her eyeshadow packaging is no exception. The shadows come in a square burgundy palette with Charlotte’s trademark rose gold logo on the front. Inside the palette there are four different shades set in a gorgeous reflective rose gold mould with a mirror on the inner side of the lid.
What drew my attention to this particular eyeshadow option were the copper toned, bronze and champagne colours of the shadows. Warm brown tones are exactly the kind of shades I like to wear. They are really easy to wear, everyday colours and by mixing and matching the shades you can create many different looks.
The shades in this palette include:
- Prime: which is a subtle shimmery champagne colour that is perfect as a base / all over the lid colour
- Enhance: which is a deep burnt red / copper shade
- Smoke: which is a really deep chocolate brown shade with very subtle flecks of copper running through it
- Pop: which is a really shimmery deep bronze shade
Apart from the lightest shade, the eyeshadows are really heavily pigmented so a little goes a long way. The formula is really soft, smooth and the eyeshadow blends out really easily. If like me you don’t have fancy eyeshadow brushes (or just aren’t very good at using them), then you can easily apply this eyeshadow with your fingers lol.
As much as I loved my Tartlettte in Bloom palette, this one is just so much more convenient and 4 shades is really more than enough for me. I’m not hugely into eyeshadow so a couple of brown tones is more than sufficient, and this little palette takes up so little space in my makeup drawer and in my bag when I am travelling.
My main issue with this palette (and most of the Charlotte Tilbury products really) is the price. This little palette costs £39 for 4 shades! That’s £1 more than my Tartlette palette cost, and that had 12 shades!! Do I think that the Dolce Vita palette is good? Yes! But do I think it is worth £40? Not really! It is a gorgeous palette but I do think that there are much cheaper alternatives out there. They would make a really nice gift for someone, but they aren’t really the kind of thing that you would be going out to buy in every single shade for yourself.
Speaking of shades, as much as I do like the shades in the Dolce Vita palette, I kind of wish I had gotten the pillow talk palette instead. It wasn’t available when I bought mine but I just think that the tones in that one would suit me better… maybe one day!
Matte Revolution Pillow Talk Lipstick
The second new Charlotte Tilbury product that I chose was her iconic Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk. She created this lipstick as the result of how hugely successful her pillow talk lip liner turned out to be and people have been going crazy for this.
I own my fair share of lipsticks but I haven’t really found one that I love so much that I want to wear it every single day… until now! Right off the bat I will say that, in my opinion, the Pillow Talk lipstick is 100% worth the hype it receives. This is honestly the best lipstick I have ever used!
To start off with, of course the packaging is so gorgeous. The lipstick comes in a heavy rose gold bullet. The shade is a gorgeous nude / pink / mauve shade and it genuinely just makes your lips look like the most perfect colour. I don’t know how but it also makes my tiny little lips look bigger and fuller. It’s just a very easy to wear shade and I think it would compliment any skin tone. I got this lipstick for my sister for Christmas and she also LOVES it!!
Whilst it is a matte lipstick, the formula doesn’t feel unbearably dry at all. It is more of a moisturising matte formula so it is very comfortable on the lips. I have also been really enjoying wearing it with a lip gloss underneath, making it more of a glossy lipstick. Applying a lip gloss before the lipstick gives it a completely different colour too so it’s like getting two lipsticks in one :). In the image at the end of the post you can see the colour of pillow talk on its own on the right, and with a lip gloss mixed in on the left.
The description on the website says: ‘The universally-loved, best-selling lipstick launched to give all women what Charlotte Tilbury calls ‘the most beautiful lips of your life’. The moisturising matte formula smooths and shapes the lips of your dreams to allure, tempt and perfect every pout. It’s formulated for every woman at every age and any skin tone. Enriched with nourishing orchid and Lipstick Tree extracts, plus light-reflecting pigments, lips appear softer, smoother and more youthful. Finished with an angled square tip, apply straight from the bullet for the best lips of your life!”
The lipstick costs £24 which is definitely more than your average lipstick, but it it totally worth it in my opinion. Apparently 1 of these lipsticks is sold every 2 minutes!
That’s it for my review on these new Charlotte Tilbury products. They have definitely further enhanced my interest in this brand. I wasn’t a fan of her skincare, which was the first thing I ever tried from her years ago and that kind of put me off trying anything else for a long time, but I am definitely a bigger fan of her makeup products.
Let me know if you have tried anything from Charlotte Tilbury or if there is something that you would highly recommend (even if it is from her skincare range – maybe I need to give that a second chance?).
I hope everyone has a great weekend! 🙂
