As most of you will know by now, Dan and I moved to a new apartment a couple of weeks ago. At the time of moving I asked on Instagram if people would be interested in seeing some more interior content on my blog, along with bits of the decorating process. The response was a resounding yes lol so here is the first of my interior posts for the new apartment.
This post is all about my new desk set up, and that’s because it was the first thing that I properly unpacked and decorated lol. I use my desk every single day so it was a priority to get it back in operation ASAP after we moved!
I was very happy with my desk situation in the old apartment and I used to get a lot of questions and compliments on it, but I have never really written a dedicated blog post about it so I thought this would be a good time to do that. There have also been a few little changes/updates from my old desk set up so I thought I would talk through those too :).
Desk – Ikea Finnvard / Linnmon Table Top and Desk Legs
My actual desk is from good ol’ Ikea (where else lol). The desk top and the legs are actually sold separately, and there are a few different options that you can mix and match. I went for the Finnvard desk legs in the beech colour and the Linnmon table top in white.
I really love the idea of being able to mix and match the legs and table tops. It means that you can completely customise the desk. I think this desk looks quite expensive but it was actually very affordable. The legs cost £25 each and the table top also cost £25 so in total the whole desk was £75 which I think is very good value for a desk of this size and quality. I also like that I can easily change the table top if I want to if it gets damaged, or when it starts to look a bit grubby without having to buy a whole new desk, and vice versa for the legs.
I can also easily alter the height of the desk by adjusting the trestle on the legs. I think this is such a clever design as it means you can use whatever chair you want at your desk. This is especially helpful for a home desk as you usually don’t want to have an ugly office chair at your desk at home and anything ‘pretty’ doesn’t usually have a height adjusting mechanism. This way you can adjust the height of your desk instead and still use a nice chair 🙂
Pink Velvet Chair – Søstrene Grene
Speaking of chairs, my chair is one of my favourite things about my desk set up. This one is from Søstrene Grene. It is pink and velvet……… enough said!
Søstrene Grene is one of my absolute favourite homeware shops. They create really trendy products at very affordable prices. I have previously spoken about their velvet chairs in this earlier blog post. I have the navy one too and I love them both.
Plant Stand – Ikea Rattan Kanelstang
As with most spaces these days, a desk is not complete without a plant lol. My current plant of choice at my desk is an ivy that has definitely seen better days, but I remain hopeful about its survival lol. I recently got this cute rattan plant stand from Ikea that you can either use to put a plant on top of it or turn it upside down and place a plant inside. I am absolutely loving everything rattan at the minute and I thought this was such a nice versatile way to display a plant. It is quite big but I like how it looks sitting here on the end of my desk :). I may just have to get a second one of these to sit on the ground and turn it the other way around for another plant purchase that I recently made!
Peg Board / Desk Accessories – Ikea Skadis Combination Pegboard
Desk accessories are very important to me lol. If you know me at all, you will know that I am (and always have been) obsessed with all things stationary. I was that girl at school that had her pencil case bursting at the seams, quite often with unnecessary things such as a mini punch or stapler and coloured stamps that would absolutely never get used lol but that didn’t matter! All the gear and no idea you might say lol.
Many years have passed but not a lot has changed. There is a section of my desk dedicated to all things stationary. I love pretty stationary as much these days as I did back then and there are very few things in life that bring me more joy than browsing a stationary shop to find a cute pen or note pad.
Another ingenious product that I recently found at Ikea is this Skadis combination pegboard. It is any stationary lovers dream lol. It is a board that you can clamp to your desk and you can attach little pen pots, shelves, clips and elastics to it to store all of your stationary in a neat and tidy way. I LOVE it!!!! That fact that it is clamped to my desk means that I don’t have to damage the wall by nailing or screwing something into it, yet I can still have the effect of shelves. It is just SUCH a clever idea (typical of Ikea).
The board itself is called the Skadis combination pegboard and there is a selection of different attachments that you can purchase individually to suit your needs. All of the attachments are designed specifically to hook directly into the holes in the pegboard. It’s so easy and convenient.
The attachments which I chose to go on my board are:
1 x pack of clips (2 per pack)
1 x container
1 x pack of elastic cords (3 per pack)
2 x shelf
1 x letter holder
Like I said, you can pick and choose whatever you want to go on your board and if you look on the Ikea website you can see lots of different combinations and ideas. I use the clips to attach little cards or small pieces of paper to my board. The container I use as a pen pot and for other things like scissors and loose paperclips and things like that. I have used one of the shelves for a little faux plant and a candle and the other one holds my hand cream and a set of the cutest little mini bud vases from Royal Albert that I found on sale in House of Fraser last week.
I use the letter holder for larger note pads and one of the elastic cords for smaller notepads and post it notes.
This board helps keep everything super organised and easy to use, but still manages to look really nice. I cannot say enough good things about it. It is such a simple design but such a good use of space. I love it. The boards also come in a number of different sizes so you can choose one that fits your desk space perfectly :).
That’s it for my new desk set up. I hope you enjoyed reading this as I really love to write these kind of interior / homeware blog posts.
Like I said, there will most likely be a few other home décor blog posts coming up in the future so do let me know if there is anything specific you would like me to write about :).
Happy weekend everyone x
