It feels like such a long time since I sat down to write a product related blog post. These usually end up being a bit sporadic because I really like to use a product for as long as possible before writing a review about it. I really do love trying out new products, but the process is slow as I don’t like to judge something too quickly. Saying that, however, I usually know immediately if I am going to like something but I always like to put it to the test.
The regular readers of my blog will know at this stage that I am a massive fan of Glossier. I wrote a detailed blog post on Glossier before they launched in the UK last year and I have been using many of their products ever since.
Since then I have been trying out a few more of Glossier’s products and I wanted to share my thoughts on them with you…
Glossier Super Glow
Super Glow is marketed as a vitamin C and magnesium serum. I love products that contain vitamin C because they have so, so many amazing skincare benefits! I have named just a few of these below:
- Promotes Collagen Production
- Improves Hydration and Moisture
- Reduces Under-Eye Circles
- Creates Brighter, Healthier Skin
- Protects against pollution and skin damage
Here in the UAE my skin is especially affected by pollution (given the dusty haze that surrounds the region) and of course by the sun. When I discovered Glossier’s Super Glow I was so excited to learn it contained vitamin C that I just had to try it out!
Glossier recommend using Super Glow to brighten and energise dull, tired skin and “for that ‘lit from within’ look, vitamin C brightens and Magnesium energises for days when you didn’t get enough sleep or skin looks sallow“. Over time, Super Glow claims to even skin tone, and create a light-reflective complexion.
Now if that doesn’t sound good to you then I don’t know what does. Into my basket it went! However… even though you know that I love so many of Glossier’s products, this one was such a let down :(. I am very aware that products with vitamin C take time to show results so I really did allow for that. I started using this product in December (twice a day; after cleansing and before moisturising) and I have pretty much finished the entire bottle at this stage but, unfortunately, I have to say that I have noticed absolutely no difference in my skin since I started using this serum. The texture is so thin that I literally felt like I was just putting water onto my face. To me it has pretty much no scent, it doesn’t feel like anything special to use and I experienced absolutely no improvements to my skin… so really there is nothing here to recommend :(.
The only thing I have left to say on this one is to save your money or invest it in a better Glossier product. Their other serums (Super Bounce and Super Pure) seem to have better reviews so I wish that I had tried one of those instead.
Glossier You Eau De Parfum
Now onto something way more positive!! ‘Glossier You’ is Glossier’s Eau De Parfum which they launched late last year. It’s no secret at this stage that I am pretty fussy when it comes to perfume and it takes a lot to move me away from my Marc Jacobs Daisy and Jo Malone scents. I’m definitely not a girl who switches between perfumes regularly. I have my favourites and I stick to them. With this in mind, when I heard that Glossier were launching a fragrance I really wasn’t that interested – not like when I hear that they are launching new skincare or makeup products.
However, with my order of some skincare products from glossier came a tiny little sample of their fragrance, which has to be the best marketing strategy I have ever experienced! The second I opened up that little sample everything changed… This perfume is by far the best smelling scent I have EVER, EVER had! I can whole-heartedly say that it is hands down my favourite perfume. Massive claim!
I am the worst person in the World at describing scents so I’m not sure I should even try lol, but here we go… It is a musky yet sweet, mature yet playful completely and utterly addictive scent!
The three base notes are:
- Ambrette: comfy, warm
- Ambrox: smooth, salty, animalistic
- Musk: long-lasting, addictive
The top notes are:
- Iris root: earthy, green, woody
- Pink Pepper: spice, sparking
The scent is very unique but in no way over powering. It’s both feminine and masculine at the same time and I absolutely love that!
There are two things that disappoint me about this product however and they are both related. My main complaint is that the perfume has absolutely no lasting power on my skin! I feel as though it disappears almost as soon as I put it on. The other complaint is that the bottle is FAR TOO SMALL!! It comes in a 50ml bottle (which is pink and cute) which just seems so small, especially given that this perfume really doesn’t last all day and it’s so tempting to spray it multiple times throughout. Perhaps this is another part of a very clever marketing strategy for this product lol! It’s small, not long lasting but incredibly addictive so… Glossier are quids in because I will definitely re-order!
In fact, they have recently released a solid version of this perfume due its popularity and I received it as a birthday present which I was very excited about. I am currently putting it through its paces in terms of testing it for lasting power. I will report back!
I know that everyone has different taste when it comes to perfume but I would be very surprised to find someone who doesn’t like the smell of this. I think it appeals to people of all ages too. I cannot recommend it highly enough. I wish that Glossier would make a hand and body cream that smells like this. In fact, a bath oil with this scent would be my dream product lol maybe I will write to them and ask…
Birthday Cake Balm Dotcom
Last but not least is another one of Glossier’s Balm Dotcoms. You will know from my previous Glossier post that these are one of my absolute favourite Glossier products. They are marketed as a universal skin salve that can be used on your lips, cuticles or basically any area of dry skin. To be honest, I only use these in the form of a lip balm and for that purpose I absolute love them. They come in a range of flavours and scents. I have four of them now but I go through them so quickly!
The latest addition to my collection is the ‘birthday’ flavour/scent. When I first saw this one I was a little unsure about it as it looked like it had little flecks of glitter in it (in true birthday style). However, I read that it is more of an iridescent sheen than a glittery sparkle and that’s exactly how it is. It gives a very flattering glow to the lips and its smells soooo good! (like cake obviously lol). I’m really glad I gave this one a go as it is definitely one of my favourites now :).
That’s it for this quick little Glossier update review. I hope it was helpful to anyone who was thinking about trying any of these products. Let me know in the comments section below if you are a Glossier fan too or if you recommend any of their products that I haven’t yet tried :).
SHOP THE POST
Loved your review! I’ve never tried glossier, sounds awful but the packaging doesn’t make me want to buy it! Thanks for your insight 🙂
Hi Ashley – thank you for your for you comment 🙂 I completely understand not wanting to by a product based on its packaging – I really appreciate nice packaging, especially on more expensive products. However, I am actually a big fan of the Glossier packaging. I love the pastel colours and the simplicity. I’d love to know what it is that puts you off? xx
