I am an absolute perfume fanatic…….. I’m the type of person who will apply perfume even if I intend to stay at home alone all day. However, I can’t say that I have a HUGE collection of perfume, and this is for two reasons:
- I am incredibly fussy about perfume…. I will often suffer from a bad headache or feel extremely nauseous if I wear the wrong scent. Because of this, I really like to try out perfumes before I commit to buying one. If I have my eye on a new one, I will often go into a store and try it out at least a few times before I purchase it. Perfume can smell completely different on everyone, and I find that even if I love the smell on someone else, I can sometimes try it on myself and not like it in the same way. For this reason, I like to test perfume on my own skin, and decide how I feel about it after I have been wearing it for a few hours. I also like to test how long a perfume lasts on my skin. There is nothing better than getting into bed at night and still being able to smell the perfume that you applied that morning.
- Once I find a good one, I stick with it and will buy it again and again.
For the above reasons, my perfume collection is somewhat limited, but you can be sure that if I own a perfume, it means that I absolutely LOVE it!!
I am definitely a seasonal perfume wearer too. By that, I mean that I like to wear certain scents in the spring and summer, and switch it up in the autumn and winter. As spring is fast approaching (here in Abu Dhabi at least) I thought I would share with you my current favourite spring scents . I am not very good at describing scents to be honest, but I will try my best. All you really need to know is that all of the following perfumes smell amazing!
Jo Malone – English Pear & Freesia (link)
Fragrance Notes: Pear, Freesia, Patchouli.
Jo Malone is one brand that, for me, consistently gets it right. I really don’t think there is one product of hers (or Estee Lauder’s I should say, as they actually own it) that I don’t like….. big statement, I know, but it’s true! I enjoy everything about this brand. I absolutely love that her products can be layered beautifully to create unique scents; they just blend so well together. Whether you want to use a shower gel, body lotion and cologne, a hand cream and cologne, or even just two colognes together, it works! Jo Malone fragrances definitely make up a large part of my collection these days, and I love making my own Jo Malone cocktail lol
I also love that most of her fragrances are unisex, and are not overly girly and sweet. Lastly, I love her simple but elegant, and tasteful packaging. I don’t think you can ever be disappointed when you see those little cream and black bags.
I was very kindly gifted the English Pear and Freesia cologne by my lovely Aunt a couple of months ago, and I have been wearing it ever since! It is divine! It is a really beautiful fresh and crisp scent, but at the same time it is somehow quite deep and woody. I know that sounds like a contradiction, but its the only way I can describe this fragrance. Sometimes I think it is quite a subtle scent and suddenly I will get a whiff of it which gives it a very definite presence on my skin. As much as I love this as a spring scent, I actually think it could be worn all year round. It also lasts for a really long time on my skin, which I don’t feel is true about a lot of other Jo Malone perfumes for me.
This is a very easy to wear scent, and I think that everyone would like it, regardless of taste and fragrance preferences.
Marc Jacobs – Daisy (link)
Fragrance Notes: Strawberry, Violet Leaves, Violet Petals, Jasmin Bouquet, Musk, Vanilla Infusion.
Marc Jacobs; Daisy is without a doubt, the oldest, most loved, and most repurchased perfume in my collection. I can’t even remember when I first discovered this. I’m pretty sure I copied it from my oldest sister, who is ALWAYS ahead of the game when it comes to perfume. In fact, I wouldn’t even like to think how many bottles of this stuff has been purchased between my three sisters and I! We all love it! Even our mum has worn this one!
For me, this perfume is an entire package of goodness. To start with, the bottle is the prettiest thing ever, with the cutest daisy lid! I am such a sucker for packaging, but this perfume is much more than just a pretty bottle. The scent is sweet, but musky and floral at the same time. It reminds me and my sisters of those Parma Violet sweets that we used to get as kids – you know the little purple sherbet ones? Perhaps it’s the nostalgic smell which makes me love this perfume so much.
This perfume has a really strong and recognisable scent, and I feel that you will either love it or hate it. It lasts so so well on my skin – I can always still smell it on my skin by the end of the day. If I spray it on a scarf or jacket, I can still smell it the next time I wear that piece of clothing, and I love that!
Daisy is one of those perfumes that I don’t have to think about wearing. If I am ever unsure what I want to wear, I will just grab Daisy. It’s my reliable and I never tire of it. I don’t think I will ever be without it.
Replica – Lazy Sunday Mornings (link)
Fragrance Notes: White Musk, Iris, Pear, Rose
Replica; Lazy Sunday Mornings is the most recent addition to my perfume collection. It is one that I have had my eye on for a long time, and I made various trips to Sephora to try it on before I got it as a birthday gift from Dan. This perfume smells absolutely gorgeous. It has a musky floral scent with hints of fruit. The fragrance description is ‘soft skin and bed linen’. I’m not entirely sure what soft skin should smell like lol, but I am definitely okay with the smell of bed linen. This perfume doesn’t last particularly well on my skin, but it lasts very well on my clothes.
I love the simple and classic style of the bottle too, but it doesn’t come with a lid which is a little bit strange (and annoying). This doesn’t stop me from wanting to try more perfumes from this range, though! They have a really nice selection.
Jo Malone – Lime Basil and Mandarin (link)
Fragrance Notes: Mandarin, Basil, Amberwood.
Last but CERTAINLY not least, is another Jo Malone cologne. Lime Basil and Mandarin is Jo Malone’s signature fragrance, and for good reason is loved by many. It has the most addictive scents I have ever experienced in a perfume. When I start to spray this I never want to stop! Lol. It is so so fresh and citrusy (is that a word?). It just smells ‘clean’. It is amazing!
Lime Basil and Mandarin is the scent I wore on my wedding day, so it will always be special to me. I spent months sampling different fragrances, and I had been in and out of the Jo Malone store so often that by the time the wedding came around the sales assistant knew me by name. The fact that I chose Lime Basil and Mandarin after months of sampling and testing says it all!
By the way, has anyone tried Jo Malone’s new brand – ‘Jo Loves’? I’m sure those scents are just as good (if not better) than her originals. Maybe I will try them out next.
I’d love to know which scents you will be wearing this spring. Leave a comment if you have any recommendations 🙂

Ahhh ‘Daisy’ …I need to buy this again. Haven’t had it for ages! I think perfumes are such a personal thing..it’s so hard to buy one for anyone. I agree you must try for a while before you buy for sure! I would like to think my signature is JMs Lime Basil and Mandrin although I am increasing drawn to Dark Amber and Gingerlilly…I did leave a little sample
Lying around just before Mother’s Day but sadly hubby didn’t get the subtle hint ?…
When I smell my wedding scent (narciso rodriguez) it brings me right back to that day..I think that’s what is so good about perfume…in that one second you are in a past moment or remembering someone special.
I loved this blog claire. Xxx
I agree Elaine – perfume really can bring back great memories of a person, moment or place in one whiff and I love that! Dark Amber and Gingerlilly is definitely on my list too. It is my latest cheeky spritz every time I pass a Jo Malone store 🙂 Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂 xx
