Today’s blog post is one that I have been wanting to write for a long time. I have been dying to try Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask since the first time I laid my eyes on it. The simple, aesthetically pleasing packaging grabbed my attention to begin with, and once I did some research on the product and learnt about its amazing skincare ingredients, I was more eager than ever to try it.
This mask has been popping up all over social media and blogs for months now and that’s not just because it is possibly one of the most photogenic products ever produced! There is so much more to this mask than gorgeous packaging!
Glow Recipe is a Korean skincare brand and I feel like that in itself is the only selling point a brand needs these days. It is no secret at this stage that Korean brands really are leading in the skincare industry, and it feels like they are always one step ahead of the game. They are a natural and cruelty-free brand that just seem to continuously get it right! Their goal is “to make South Korea’s latest skincare trends accessible to beauty-forward women across the globe“. Hallelujah!
Watermelon is traditionally used in Korea to sooth irritated and inflamed skin with its restoring vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids. Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask also contains hydrating hyaluronic acid and exfoliating, pore-refining alpha-hydroxy acids which clarify and boost your skin while you sleep, revealing radiant skin by morning time.
The mask can be used in two ways, either as a ten minute wash off mask or as an overnight mask. I prefer to use it as an overnight mask for two reasons; 1) it is much easier than washing it off lol and 2) it seems like such a waste to wash off all of those lovely ingredients! The longer I can leave it on the better as far as I’m concerned.
The mask has a really cooling and refreshing gel-like consistency. It is pale pink and of course it smells like watermelon. Due to the highly natural makeup of the mask formula, sometimes separation of the ingredients can occur. I haven’t experienced this yet, but the mask does come with a cute little spatula that can be used to stir the mask if separation occurs and to scoop the mask out onto my face. I love that I don’t have to dip my fingers into the jar and the spatula keeps everything nice and hygienic.
To use as an overnight mask I apply two tiny scoops to my face and that is more than enough. A little bit goes such a long way with this product. It is £45 for an 80ml jar, which initially seemed very expensive to me, but seeing how little I need to use per application I can tell that this one jar will last me a very long time!
When I first apply it to my face it feels so cooling and hydrating. It soaks in really quickly, leaving my skin feeling silky and almost powdery. I love that it doesn’t make my face feel sticky and tacky and doesn’t stick to my pillowcase whatsoever! lol
Given the name of this mask, ‘Glow Sleeping Mask’, I was really expecting to waken up in the morning with glowy hydrated skin, but my results were different. I definitely cannot say that my skin was super bouncy and glowy, but it there were little flakes of dead skin all over my face illustrating that the peeling properties of this mask actually worked on my skin overnight.
Whilst my face didn’t feel overly hydrated, it did feel very soft and smooth. I can definitely say that this mask has helped with the texture of my skin and getting rid of old, dead skin. I love that I can just apply this overnight and it works as a peel without me having to rub or scrub my face. It’s gentle yet extremely effective.
As I mentioned earlier, it also comes in a gorgeous heavy glass jar with a simple pale pink lid and white label. This really is such a lovely product and I think it deserves the hype it is getting. I haven’t ever tried anything quite like it.
I try to us this mask two or three times a week. The day after I use this mask I like to follow up with a really moisturising and nourishing products such as Glossier’s Moon Mask or Bobbi Brown’s Skin Nourish Mask (I actually have a blog post coming on this one soon!). The end result is exfoliated but nourished skin… ahhhhhhhhh 🙂
I hope this blog post was helpful to anyone who was considering buying this mask. It really is a gorgeous product and I think it is worth the £45 splurge. It basically works magic as I sleep. It blows my mind that all I have to do is rub a cooling gel onto my face at night, and I can waken up in the morning with flakes of dead skin ready to be washed away to leave me with a fresh soft face. I can’t ask for much more than that. It is a quick, easy, enjoyable and effective process.
I would also love to hear if anyone has already tried it and what your thoughts are :). My review of the Glossier Moon Mask that I mentioned can also be found here if you are interested.
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂
