I know I’m not the first, and certainly wont be the last, to write about the latest releases from Zoella Beauty. I have been a fan of Zoe Sugg (a.k.a Zoella) for years now, and I own a few bits and pieces from her homeware range, which I love, but I have never tried anything from her beauty line. Given that I have been following her YouTube channel for so long now, I thought it was about time I give some of them a go. I know that Zoe has quite a young fan base so I thought it would be interesting to review these products as someone in their early thirty’s. Zoe, if you are reading this……(I’m sure you are lol), then know that I believe you when you say that it is not just teenagers who make up the majority of your fan base – I am living proof of that!
So this month Zoella Beauty released a new line of products called the Jelly and Gelato range. As the name suggests, the concept behind the range is that all of the products represent things that you would associate with summer treats, like ice cream and jelly. The scent of the products is elderflower and pomegranate.
The line contains the following:
- Gelato Shower Sauce – £5
- Gelato Bath Wafers – £5
- Gelato Cream Body Scrub – £8
- Gelato Bath Frosting – £7
- Gelato Body Pudding – £8
- Gelato Shower Shake – £6
- Gelat’Eau Body Mist – £8
As you can see, the products are all fairly affordable and, armed with a £10 voucher for the Feel Unique website, I ordered everything apart from the cosmetic bag. In the UK there are two main stockists – Superdrug and FeelUnique.com
Here are my thoughts on the products………
Gelato Shower Sauce
The Shower Sauce is basically a shower gel / body wash (sorry if that was obvious!). As with all of the packaging in the range, the bottle that this comes in is very pretty (albeit the least exciting packaging of all of the products). It is a pretty standard plastic bottle but it is transparent so you can see how much product you have left (I love that!) and is a nice pink colour. It has a very subtle scent, and it lathers nicely. I can’t say that it made my skin feel extra soft or anything like that, but it certainly wasn’t drying or harsh on my skin either. It quite simply gets the job done.
Gelato Bath Wafers – Moisturising Bath Fizzers
The Gelato Bath Wafers are designed to be moisturizing bath fizzers. When I read this description, I was expecting it to be a similar concept to the Lush Bath Bombs, and that’s kind of what it was. The product looks just like a pink wafer and comes as a square, wrapped up a bit like a chocolate bar in pretty paper. The square has a very defined line indicating that it should be split along its diagonal to create two triangles. You therefore get two baths out of the product. At first I thought this was a bit wasteful, but given that you only get one bath from a Lush Bath Bomb (and they are usually more than £2.50 each), it seems pretty reasonable.
The idea behind the product is that it is enriched with extracts of Elderflower and Pomegranate to help brighten, smooth and tone. The fizzer smells really nice; just like elderflower and pomegranate it is sweet but subtle, if that makes sense?! So I broke the fizzer in half and popped one of them in the bath. It gave the water a very slight hint of pink and fizzed until it had completely dissolved. I can’t say that it made a noticeable difference to my skin but it was a pleasant product to use.
Gelato Cream Body Scrub
For the price, this scrub is a really lovely product. Again, the packaging is very cute and the actual product looks and smells amazing. It is a bright orangey/yellow colour that looks just like sorbet! The texture of the product is quite different for a ‘scrub’. It’s a very, very thick, balm like product with very mild exfoliating beads. This is definitely the kind of scrub you could use in the shower every day, as it is much milder and less abrasive than most scrubs. It did make my skin feel nice and soft, but I don’t think it is one that I would turn to if I need to scrub off week old fake tan!
Gelato Bath Frosting (Bath Milk Powder)
Straight off I would say that, unfortunately, this was probably the most disappointing product in my opinion. It’s not that there was anything particularly wrong with it, and I wouldn’t call it ‘bad’, but it was just sort of a ‘nothing’ product. The best part about the product is definitely the packaging (and I know that is not enough on its own). It comes in a very pretty tin with three sachets inside. I had never really used a product like this before so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The concept behind the product is similar to that of the Bath Wafer, in that it contains extracts of Eldeflower and Pomegranate to help soften, brighten and tone. However, this one is kind of a step up from the Bath Wafer as it is also enriched with moisturizing milk. I poured the sachet into the bath under running water and swirled it around, like the packaging instructed. The bath turned a very slight milky colour but as far as I could make out, it didn’t have a very distinctive scent, nor did it have any obvious benefits to my skin. Like I said, it was a bit ‘nothing’….. (sad face).
Gelato Body Pudding
The body butter is another really nice product. It comes in a cute little tub which looks just like a pint of ice-cream (but a little smaller). I had such a surprise when I opened up the tub to find that the cream was white with lots of little pink beads. It looks very pretty. I don’t think I have ever used a body butter which had beads in it. They just melt into the skin as you rub it on. The product has a lovely scent and made my skin feel nice and soft. I am the type of person who cannot bare really sticky body creams, so to test this out properly, I applied it after a bath just before bed one night and also in the morning before getting dressed. I can honestly say that this is a really comfortable cream to wear both at night time and during the day. It didn’t make me feel sticky and gross. It’s a lovely product.
Gelato Shower Shake
Shower cream is another shower product (obvious again, lol). The packaging of this one is so adorable. To match its name, it basically looks like a milkshake with a straw sticking out the top! The scent is similar to the shower sauce but this one gives a little extra in terms of moisturising, and has a slightly thicker and creamier consistency. Again, it quite simply gets the job done!….. and looks super cute in my shower!
Gelat’Eau Body Mist
Body sprays aren’t really something that I can say I have used before, but for the sake of doing a thorough review of the line, and for the price, I thought I might as well give this one a go. Not to mention, this is my favourite packaging of the whole line!! It is sooooo pretty!! It is a heavy, square white bottle with a lovely pastel colours on the front and a gorgeous gold lid. The bottle has a very luxurious feel to it. The spray itself has quite a sweet scent but its not too overpowering. It really didn’t last very long on my skin, but that is to be expected from a body spray and for the price of this one, I think it is reasonable to top up as you go throughout the day :).
So, that’s it for my review of these popular products. My overall favorite products of the range were definitely the Cream Scrub and the Body Pudding. If you were only going to buy one, I would recommend the body pudding. Whilst I thought the products were nice, I’m not sure they would replace any of my current favourites. In terms of packaging though, I rate these very highly. They look and feel really nice. Well done Zoe!
I hope this helps anyone who is considering trying out some of these products. As always, I would love to hear if you do, and what your thoughts are :).
